Spotlight on Thebe Tourism
Thebe Tourism has enjoyed much success since its conception in 2001. It’s success can be largely attributed to the long term investment strategy and a number of successful investments. “Thebe Tourism Group has invested in businesses that deliver sustainable returns and share the key values of Thebe,” says Brett Hendricks, General Manager of Thebe Tourism Group.
The subsidiaries and associate companies of Thebe Tourism are Travelex Africa, Club Travel, Thebe Reed Exhibitions, Thebe Tourism Retail Group, Tour da Afrique, Compass Group SA and Cape Point Partnership. “These businesses show good growth year on year; they drive innovation and are responsive to the changes within their markets,” Brett says.
Thebe has an important presence in the tourism industry. “The group plays a role in most parts of the tourism value chain, which is key to maximise the spend by the consumer and to promote synergy between the group companies,” Brett explains.
As the General Manager, Brett is responsible for strategy formulation and for performance measurement against the objectives set. “I am pleased with what we have achieved thus far,” he says. Club Travel was voted Africa’s Leading Travel Agent for a 7th successive year and Cape Point won a Trip Advisor award of excellence. Carol Weaving, MD of Thebe Reeds Exhibitions, was named the Top Performing Businesswoman of the Year at the African Access National Business Awards 2013. “We have enjoyed some great successes this year,” he confirms.
Building on the success of this year, Thebe Tourism has an exciting vision for the year ahead. “We are now focusing on strengthening the Thebe Tourism Group mix and growing the public travel market.” To this end they are employing ways to increase the number and the quality of travel through Thebe Tourism. The aim is to inspire non-travelers to travel, and to do so through Thebe Tourism as well as to develop travel businesses for increased end-to-end offering thereby growing the tourism pie for everyone involved in the tourism industry.
“We are excited about our new projects and areas of development like hospitality and attractions management,” says Brett. “We will certainly make the most of it and leverage the opportunities from the 20 year celebrations to further expand and develop Thebe Tourism to a leader within the tourism industry.”
