Exciting announcements at the TYB WAY Indaba
Thebe Ya Bophelo staff and management gathered at the Nelson Mandela Center of Memory in Houghton on the 6th of March 2015. This annual TYB WAY Indaba is a gathering for the announcement of the fiscal report and the company’s strategy for upcoming years by the CEO, Rohan Laird.
The highlight of the TYB WAY Indaba was the unveiling of a new organisational structure. TYB, which has operated primarily as a medical scheme administrator in South Africa since 2003, saw opportunities to leverage its current asset base to grow the business into adjacent health care and related services within Africa. Over the past year TYB has made significant strides in implementing this strategy with the launch of Phela Wellness, Thebe Lifestyle benefits and an operation in Nigeria – Thebe Nigeria HMO.
In order to achieve proper focus for the group, a new holding company – Thebe Health Group has been established as the health division of the Thebe Group. Under this holding company, a number of operating companies will deliver innovative and cost effective workplace health and wellness solutions:
- Phela Wellness, a workforce management solutions company, provides customised wellness programmes and workforce management software to get businesses to reduce their healthcare cost and improve productivity by creating a healthier, happier workforce.
- Thebe Nigeria HMO is a health insurance company launched by TYB in partnership with the leading Nigerian Insurer with the objective of providing a competitive health care offering to the 8,5m Nigerians already covered by health insurance, as well as to penetrate the projected market of 45m people who could afford such cover.
- Thebe Lifestyle & financial services encompasses an innovative loyalty programme which offers exciting discounted benefits including free smart phone with airtime and data, discounted gym benefit and many more rewards together with insurance products such as funeral and gap cover.
Mr Rohan Laird will be the CEO of Thebe Health Group and Dr. Mangaliso Mahlaba as the new CEO of Thebe Ya Bophelo Administrator, effective from 1 April 2015.
Reverend Tsele endorsed the new structure as a way that originated from the dreams of Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Enos Mabuza and Beyers Naudé. The dream of a politically and economically liberated South Africa, an epitome of a successful company that becomes a mentor and beacon of hope for black economic success. When referring to the growth of Thebe Health, he expressed the alignment with the TIC strategy of fuelling Africa’s growth story, an organisation that is rooted in the community and strives to continuously uplift its people by bridging the gaps. He congratulated all the staff for the continued support and their belief in the business.
Ntate Khanyile commended the manner in which Thebe Health walked the talk by living the TYB WAY. He congratulated Thebe Health as an organisation that brings together employees to share the business strategies and vision in the aim to achieving common objectives. People within TYB would now have greater opportunities to grow within the business and in partnership with other key stakeholders.
