Let’s do our 67km for Mandela Day

The Kaya FM 67KM Relay for Mandela Day 2015 in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation is a corporate relay challenge event in honour of one of South Africa’s most iconic leaders – Tata Nelson Mandela. South Africans and the world observe Nelson Mandela International Day and want to do their 67 minutes or 67km’s (in our case at Kaya FM) of goodwill in honour of Tata.

As part of the legacy programme, the Thebe Foundation has been the driving force behind the Thebe Group’s involvement in the Kaya FM Nelson Mandela Relay. Nelson Mandela was one of the founders of Thebe Investment Corporation and it is important to the company to support this initiative which also reinforces one of the Foundation’s primary focuses: education.

To this end the Thebe Foundation encourages Thebe Group companies as well as associates to participate in the initiative. In 2014, the Thebe Group had roughly 250 participants and is aiming to increase that number significantly. The relay which was originally scheduled for the 12 July 2015 will now be taking place on the 6th of September at the Nasrec Expo Centre. This choice of venue means an increased number of participants. Let’s make 2015 a great year.

The relay, which consist of teams of 10 people, helps to create camaraderie and social cohesion within South Africa. Put together your team of ten and head to Nasrec for a fun day for the whole family. Each team member will run 6.7km, with each 10-member team covering a total of 67km, in celebration of the 67 years Madiba worked to make the world a better place.
