Well Wishes – Trek4Mandela
By Sherole Webster
As we draw closer to the month of July, what many of us dread most is the prospect of more cold weather but for the five teams embarking on the Trek4Mandela there is far more that they’re anticipating.
With their journey to summit Mount Kilimanjaro beginning on 14 July 2015, there is no doubt that the teams are anxious. With tireless fitness sessions, hiking expeditions that have taken place over the last few months it is no wonder the teams may be dealing with a range of emotions from excitement to a reasonably understandable amount of distress. “One does not conquer a mountain; it is important to respect it,” said Mokgethi Tshabalala of the Thebe Foundation who has been preparing himself vigorously for the journey.
The trekkers are aiming to raise a minimum of R1.5-million which will go towards Caring4Girls, an initiative aimed at empowering young girls to take ownership of their journey to womanhood with the provision of essential feminine hygiene products.
As the trekkers gear themselves mentality, physically and emotionally for a journey that will not only test their physical limits but is bound to give them a new outlook on life and possibly the role of man in the grander scheme of things. We wish the team the best of luck as they attempt to summit Africa’s highest peak.
