Superhero Fun in the Sun
By Monica Seerane
Thebe Ya Bophelo (TYB) hosted a delightful Family Fun Day event on the 19th September 2015, at Edenvale Soccer Action. The event was the perfect opportunity for management to engage and cement the relationship with employees as well as their families. The day was also about everyone embracing their inner child and having a great time.
The theme for the day got everyone to dress up as their favourite superhero. This theme was well received with children and adults alike dressing up in their best interpretation of their chosen superheroes. The theme made everyone realize the importance of a positive contribution to society, in the workplace and within the communities where we work and/or do business. The CEO of TYB, Rohan Laird, addressed the employees and their families. Zuki Mbanjwa the key speaker on the day provided inspiration. As a motivational speaker, she focused on the theme of her Life Journey. She spoke about her life experiences and lessons. Zuki shared the story of how she continues to overcome the trials of suddenly being restricted to a wheelchair after having been shot; she expressed that it was a tough road to recovery not only on a physical level but on mental, spiritual and emotional levels as well. She works hard towards following her dreams regardless of the trials her sudden disability may pose. This heroic story provided much anticipated motivation for a positive outlook on life for all the superheroes in attendance.
The event included fun activities that accommodated everyone from soccer, volleyball, tug of war and numerous indoor games. Employees and their families came with a positive energy irrespective of how gloomy the morning weather looked and as the sunshine began to break through the clouds, spirits lifted even higher. There were phenomenal gifts handed out to the best teams. The Fun Day resonated with our value of Community by embracing employees and their family and friends.
Family and community are integral parts of society as a whole, being able to strike a balance between work and family life is important, this balance ensures progression on a large scale. Positivity is contagious and should be continuously encouraged to reach success.
