Thebe Tourism Group’s Year of Glory
By Judiet Barnes
At this time of the year, when celebration and festivity hangs in the air, it is also a time to reflect on our achievements and highlights that made the past year glimmer with prospects for the year coming.
2015 held many achievements grand and small, to name them all could fill a novel and for that we thank all employees involved at Thebe Tourism Group companies. A few key highlights we would like to specifically mention are:
• The launch of Holiday Swap KZN, South Africa’s first reality travel TV game show premiered on SABC 1 on 9 February this year, and kept viewers entertained with the drama and excitement surrounding the contestants for 13 episodes. Peaking at 4.9million viewers during episode 12, the show was a great success – so great in fact that it won an international content marketing award in the UK earlier this month!
• During Holiday Swap KZN, we launched the Thebe Travel Card, which enables travellers to travel now and pay later, but also gives the option to lay-by your travel package – a first for South Africa. Later in the year we introduced the Thebe Travel Card Lifestyle programme which includes many valued offerings, discounts and services – a welcomed product to aspiring travellers.
• Club Travel once again outshone the rest at the World Travel Awards, where they not only won Best African Travel Agency for the 9th consecutive year, but also won Best South African travel Agency for the 2nd year in a row – a remarkable achievement!
• In the latter part of the year, Thebe Tourism Group proudly announced the Cape Point shareholding acquisition – we are now 100% shareholders of the Concession at Cape Point, part of the southern section of Table Mountain National Park, where our role includes facility management of the Flying Dutchman Funicular; Two Oceans Restaurant; The Foodshop and the three retail outlets on site.
• During the same time we increased our shareholding at Tour D’Afrique: we are now a 40% shareholder compared to the previous 25%.
With these – and many more – highlights we look forward to an exciting 2016!
